New Essential smartphone by the creator of Android

The long-awaited Essential smartphone from Andy Rubin, the creator of Android, has finally been revealed. After teasing it for months, we are finally getting to see what this high end device will offer

In the design room, we can agree that it is one of the best-looking mobiles on the market. Built using a combination of titanium and ceramic, making it more durable than competing smartphones made of aluminium. Phone surface is clean with a minimalist style with no logos. It features a 5.71-inch, 2,560 x 1,312 edge-to-edge display that goes all the way to the the top of the phone, wrapping around the front-facing selfie camera.

Essential is not letting down on camera department, the back is a 13-megapixel dual-camera system that combines a colour sensor with a monochrome sensor which will be able  to take in more light than traditional camera, giving improved quality in low light shooting. The front-facing camera, an 8-megapixel sensor that can also capture 4K video.

The Essential Phone will have modular functionality with a magnetic connector. Essential will ship with a 360-degree camera that can click in to the top of the phone, and the company will also offer a charging dock. Both connect to the phone with small metal pogo pins. This means users will be able to clip accessories to it, such as a 360-degree camera and a charging dock.

On the inside, an expected latest processor Snapdragon 835 processor paired with 4GB and 128GB of internal storage, a 3,040mAh battery, a USB Type-C port and a fingerprint sensor.

The Essential Phone will also drop the 3.5mm headphone jack, though the handset will ship with a headphone dongle in the box.

We understand that the Essential Phone will only be available in the US right now, where it will retail for $699 and come in black, grey, white and green colour.
