Top Smartphones to Look Out for in 2016

February 20, 2016 Android Google HTC huawei iPhone Microsoft OnePlus Rumours Samsung

With the evolution of smartphones moving in a fast pace, there is always something in the blues waiting to be released. No sooner have you seen the latest model than for another smartphone to be anticipated. These smartphones technology has made them one of the most used devices, they sare stronger, thinner, faster, and sleeker.

It’s about time we start thinking about the next big thing this year. Therefore, we have rounded up phones we are anticipating, or those we know are coming as well as those that haven’t launched yet.

LG G5

LG G5

The Korean company, LG, is expected to bring us the successor to the LG G4: the LG G5 this year. Journalists have already been invited for an event that will come up February 21, this year, just before the MWC (Mobile World Congress) starts.

Rumor has it that the phone will come in a modular build to accommodate a removable battery and a complete metal unibody design. There is speculation that the phone will come with a Quad HD resolution with a 5.6” screen.

Another report have suggested that we will see an Iris scanner on the new model, and that it may be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 820. WE also expect the new flagship to come with a 2800 mAh battery with a 16 MP rear camera. As for the price, availability, and release date, there has not been any official proclamation. So, we glue our ear to the wall.

Huawei P9

Huawei P9

The Chinese company, Huawei, has been in the spotlight for some months now, having seen success with its Mate 8 and P8 flagships, and joining the other companies in developing the Nexus 6P for the Google Android platform. Now, rumor is rife that the company is going to throw in a successor to the P8, the P9 flagship.

After the speculation that the new flagship will be announced in the CES 2016 even is crushed, everyone is looking towards the Mobile World Conference coming up at the end of February.

There have been reports of a dual lens rear camera and an Octa-core processor. The flagship might be designed with a curved back as well as a Quad HD display. These specs have been touted by numerous claims. Meanwhile, other rumors have it that P9 Max and P9 Lite will accompany the P9. It seems the company is not just looking at capturing the market it has made with the P8 but going beyond as it has been touted to do with the rumor of its hybrid laptop.

Samsung Galaxy S7

Galaxy S7

The Galaxy S7 and its cousins, Samsung Galaxy S7 edge+ and Samsung Galaxy S7 edge have already been on the radar of rumor mill for some time.

Rumors suggest that we should be expecting at least a 5.8” and 5.2” devices with the Quad HD display. Moreover, Leaks suggest that Samsung will play around with the Snapdragon 820 processor in one device and use the in-house developed Exyno in the other device. In addition, we suspect the company may want to stick with the in house hardware, while the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 is used for testing in its prototypes. Of course, this should be taken lightly as we should expect anything from the company.

There have also been speculations that the company will return to microSD cards in its upcoming flagship.

Another feature that is talked about is 5-MP front facing camera and a 16 MP rear facing camera to come with the new flagship. Reports from SamMobile are that Samsung is testing some prototypes with a 20 MP ISOCELL sensor and a dual camera setup. As you can see, there is a lot going on within the smartphone giant R & D department and we hope to see mouth-watering features in the coming months this year.

OnePlus 3

The rumor on this device is still light as we write this. The only rumor that seems to have gained ground is the suggestion from leaks that there will be a full HD display on the OnePlus 3.

We expect to see the new flagship powered by the same processor, Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, as the OnePlus 2. We also expect to see a USB Type-C and 4GB of RAM. An increase in price as well as a larger battery capacity from the OnePlus 2 is deserving and wouldn’t hit us unaware.

While rumor is expected to pick over the next few months, we suspect that the OnePlus 3 2ill have the same size and design as the previous models.

Apple iPhone 7

Following the company’s historical and yearly schedule, we are anticipating the new flagship to be announced by September this year. From the rumors that are widespread now, the iPhone 7 might be without a headphone jack or a home button. We are also banking on the iPhone 7 to come with the newest chipset from Apple: A10. We also anticipate a complete overall of the design, a new or completely different display and waterproof protection. Maybe the new iPhone device will come with a better battery life too.

As far as we are concerned, the best Apple can do this year when it releases its smartphone is to boast of a better battery that’s never seen in any iPhone device. That way, the company will be able to raise eyebrow and maybe win more fans to its fan base.

Microsoft Surface Phones

Seeing that the Microsoft line of Lumia phones are not a match for smartphone giants like Apple and Samsung, are we going to see the end of the Lumias in 2016? Of course, no one can say. But the introduction of its Surface line of phones might suggest what we are thinking. Since the company already has its line of other Surface products like the Surface book and the original Surface, it would totally make sense to come up with a new line in its mobile phones.

This list constitutes some of the smartphones you should look out for this year. There are other models still waiting to be rumored, but these popular smartphones are what we anticipate now.
